Back From the Bahamas for the Summer
We spent most of April and May cruising around the familiar Abaco cruising spots, Guana Cay, Man-Of-War Cay, Little Harbour, and Treasure Cay. Even though our major boat leak repair is fixed, we still had some problems with some of our electronics when Satisfaction was returned to us in February. I am not sure why this would happen as the repair job had no reason to touch any of these electronic systems. However, this did not stop us from cruising the local spots.
In early June we had Satisfaction hauled out at a yard on Green Turtle Cay. This was our first time hauling out and preparing the boat for hurricane season in the Bahamas. It took us about 3 full days to get Satisfaction ready for haul out. This preparation requires taking down all sails, cockpit canvas, storing the dinghy/engine, and removing anything from the boat deck that is loose. This includes all cockpit cushions, life preservers, all flags, as well as tying down all running rigging. I also placed a tarp over the helm and tied it down with a bunch of bungee cords to prevent water from getting into the helm electronics as they are now exposed to the elements with the cockpit canvas removed.
After storing Satisfaction, we flew to Ft. Lauderdale and rented a car. We spent about 2 weeks visiting family and friends in Florida and up the east coast to Delaware. We are now in Maryland preparing for our summer trip to Canada. For some reason we met and befriended a lot of Canadian cruisers this past winter. So we are visiting 6 different Canadian friends located from Toronto to Nova Scotia. We are also renting an apartment in downtown Quebec City for a month to visit the area.
That is about all that is new. Some pictures of our last couple months in Abacos. Remember to click on pictures to enlarge……
