Temporarily Stuck on Land on Elbow Cay
After a couple short cruises on the Sea of Abaco, Satisfaction developed a slow leak coming from the back of the boat that was difficult to find due to the boat liner. We had to have Satisfaction hauled out at the Marsh harbor Boatyard to try to locate the leak. After checking all thru-hulls and hull joints, the leak appeared to be coming from the stern tube that the propeller shaft goes through from the inside of the boat to the outside. Unfortunately, this is a rare problem but is a major repair to replace the stern tube.

So Satisfaction has been on land since mid-December. We stayed in the Hope Town Marina hotel for a week, and then stayed at the friend’s house for a week while they were home during the Christmas holiday.

Fortunately, we had already planned a 10-day stay in the US over the New Year’s holiday. However, when we returned, not much work had been done to Satisfaction due to the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period. So we are now staying in a small but quaint cottage on the ocean in White Sound on south Elbow Cay.
Despite this bit of bad luck with Satisfaction, it was a very enjoyable Christmas season in Hope Town. For a small town there is a lot going on. We went to the school Christmas play; we attended a few Christmas parties at people’s island homes and on their boats. There was a night where a big group went caroling around town. This year the town put together a Christmas village on the kid’s ball field that even included a synthetic ice rink.
We hope that Satisfaction will be completed soon. In the meantime, we will time to get to know the White Sound area on Elbow Cay a little better. White Sound is about 2 miles south of Hope Town. There is a marina and a couple nice small island resorts.
Retirement Planning Hint:
The stock market started 2016 with a significant down draft. If you are near retirement and this makes you nervous, you should check your equity allocation percentage and consider lightening up on stocks and increasing your cash level. That is what I just did. But do not let the recent market drop scare you into selling all your stocks.
